Become a Modern Mystic in a Chaotic World
Welcome to The Daily Alchemist!
I’m here for your brilliance—imagination, creativity, curiosity, intuition, and even your beautifully flawed humanity. And, like you, I sometimes feel as if we exist in the shadows cast by big tech’s monster algorithms and the numbing logic of cookie-cutter conformity.
As Carlo Levi beautifully expressed, I believe the future has an ancient heart. It’s calling us to remember who we are, stepping forward to create a more-than-human world. Technology is not the enemy—far from it. But as it reshapes our world, I believe there’s an art to responding mindfully, not just reacting to the constant change. I created this space to offer a sanctuary where mysticism and food blend, helping us navigate these shifts with creativity, intention, and grace.
We are learning to be modern mystics from moment to moment in a world hungry for physical and spiritual nourishment.
We cannot live without food, belief, and community—and we shouldn’t live without a dash or rebellion against being treated as data points. We are more than users. We are seekers of experience, nourishment, and connection.
Here, you’ll find inspiration to infuse your everyday life with the magic of ritual and the power of intention—whether it is through contemplation, cooking, or creative expression. Together, we’ll explore the alchemy of soul and sustenance.

Four Things You Might Like to Know About My Magical Journey, So Far
My book publishing career began in graduate school. One Saturday in November, while driving to campus, I was in a car accident caused by another driver who happened to be an uninsured motorist, a lawyer, a local politician, and my graduate advisor’s lover.
As Fate would have it, a book publisher advertised in The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper for a sales representative, and the job came with a company car. I took the hint from the Universe: humanity would survive without my analysis of meta-narratives redefining pain and celebration in Barry Hannah's postmodern novels.
When I moved to New York, my neighbors thought I was a cast member in the Broadway musical Cats because they heard me signing in my apartment. I was singing--made-up songs to my cat.
Although a publisher of award-winning cookbooks, I once put a Chilean Sea Bass in the microwave because I was running late and expecting a date for a romantic dinner. As he rang the apartment buzzer, the Sea Bass exploded to my surprise.
While living in the UK as the editorial director of a global publisher, I failed the written part of the driver’s test because my answers, they claimed, showed a poor attitude toward other drivers. Hey, I came from New York! What was their problem?!
